Brecon RFC 35 - Abertillery 10

Brecon played hosts to Abertillery, in blustery but dry conditions on a perfect surface in front of a large crowd. Having not played each other last season, both teams didn't know what to expect from the encounter. However, home side coaches were encouraged by a good turn out of players all keen to get back playing after last weeks break

From the kick off Brecon looked bright and full of running and got into a fourteen point lead within the first ten minutes. This was an appropriate reward for good recycling of the ball and excellent use of their potent back line.

Abertillery must take great credit, they worked hard and deserved the next score giving the Brecon side much to think about at half time.

Brecon did not panic and started to play exciting open rugby. They scored another three trys before Abertillery responded with another try of their own before the final whistle.

Both sides battled hard to gain the upper hand at the break down, Abertillery had some large ball carriers who were very happy to take on the Brecon forwards, all of them worked hard to prevent the visitors gaining the momentum. There was parity up front but Brecons speedy back line was the difference between the sides

Due to injuries and late pull outs many of the Brecon players played in positions unfamiliar to them and all can be very proud of the way they coped

It was a excellent game played in a very good spirit which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed
