Brecon Under 11 SUNDAY 27th November 2011 Brecon RFC 35 - Croesyceiliog 19 On Sunday, after the withdrawal of the Abertillery side late on Friday, Brecon Under 11’s hosted Croesyceiliog who had been keen for a fixture since the start of the season. The morning comprised of a full match then followed by a second development game of 20 minutes. On a dry but windy morning underfoot conditions were not ideal following the overnight rain but this did not really prevent both teams from playing some exciting rugby. In the opening match it was the visitors who got off to the best possible start when they were able to turn over the ball from an attacking runner who was not supported after being tackled. They moved the ball well to score in the corner and converted the try. The Brecon side did not panic and slowly but surely got into the game and began to cope with the pressure being exerted by the opposition. From a scrum the home side put together an excellent handling move for the winger to score a well worked try which was converted. After getting back on level terms mid way through the first half the home team then started to put pressure on the visitors line and it was from this pressure that the visitors were forced to scramble a loose kick away which was fielded by the Brecon winger who ran it back and outpaced the defence to score the second try which was converted. Brecon did not let up at the end of the first half and came desperately close to their third try and it took a heroic tackle to turn the Brecon attacker onto his back over the line to stop the home side increasing the lead. The half time score was 14 - 7 to the home side. Croesyceiliog got back on terms early in the second half with their second try which was converted. Brecon found themselves deep in their own territory and from a lineout a searing break from the outside half got the home side on the move and the ball was moved well along the line for the full back to score an excellent try which was converted. Brecon forwards were working extremely hard at the breakdown and were dominating this aspect of the game and it was from an excellent turnover that the home side were able to move the ball for the centre to cross for a try which was converted. Brecon continued to play some excellent rugby and after some good vision and a lovely cut out pass and some excellent handling in mid field they looked destined to score another excellent try but they were denied as the ball was knocked on just on the line. Croesyceiliog did not give up and kept going and finished with a consolation try to end the game. The final score was Brecon 35 Croesyceiliog 19. Devolopment Game After a quick regroup the Brecon side then began to find their confidence and started tackling and putting the opposition under some pressure. They also began to keep hold of the ball for longer periods and eventually this paid off and they scored two outstanding team tries which were converted. With time ticking away Croesyceiliog ensured there was not going to be a dramatic comeback and scored their final try to ensure they won the development match by 31 - 14 Well done to both teams for two entertaining games, thanks to Steve for refereeing and taking firm control of the game and the Croesyceiliog team for travelling up to Brecon. Special thanks to all the Brecon boys who turned up on Sunday a put in a fantastic effort. It is great to see that we now have 18 boys all keen to play for the Club. Let’s make sure we all try hard to get to practice on Friday night so we can keep improving.
