Brecon Under 12s V Abergavenny (1st Feb 2009)
Sunday saw the Under 12s take the field at Parc de Pugh, for the
return fixture against 'local' rivals Abergavenny, having been narrowly
defeated by them earlier in the season.
Coaches Murph Jones and Lee Lewis would have been hoping for a reversal
of that previous result as they entertained the visitors, although
what was always going to be a difficult game became even more of
a challenge as the team saw a number of players not available for
reasons of illness and injury.
The players who were available took to the field with limited resources,
and in bitingly cold Arctic weather. The recent inactivity of the
squad due to the constraints of the weather also came home to roost,
as the team struggle to contain the visitors. In spite of the best
efforts of the players, Abergavenny triumphed by 40-10, and the Brecon
lads left the field feeling disheartened by the score.
The coaches, whilst frustrated by the fact that this score does
not reflect the respective strengths of the teams, remain upbeat
that the squad is just one or two positive results away from gelling
as a competitive unit. The training throughout the season shows a
positive intent on the part of coaches and players, and the squad
contains some real talent throughout. The demands, this season, of
the 15 a side game, are seeing a need for greater physicality in
the team, and the side has come up against some 'big' teams.
Notwithstanding this, the squad has the ability to make some real
progress over the remainder of the season, and Murph and Lee are
confident that things will turn around soon. This will require continued
effort on the part of all, and also maintain the positive work ethic
that has been shown in training. Once the team gets the confidence
to translate this on to the pitch, all the parents and supporters
believe they will then take some stopping!
GOOD LUCK AND KEEP IT UP ALL OF YOU!!
Next Sunday sees the team travelling to Builth on the Sunday for
the return fixture with them. This offers an opportunity to get straight
back out on the paddock and put today behind you - GO FOR IT!!
