SUNDAY
11th October 2009
Brecon
Under 13s/under14s - 43 v Gwernyfed
under13s /under 14s -
12
After Fairwater calling off the scheduled match a quick ring around and
here comes the old foe. A combined Brecon under 13s and under 14s take
on a combined Gwernyfed team. These local derbies can be very close
affairs but that was not the case today.
Not being used to playing together was not a disadvantage for Brecon
who after only five minutes of play scored the first try courtesy of
Kieron Elliot. This was converted by Huw Prothero who had a good kicking
game.
Gwernyfed fought back manfully and put Brecon under five minutes of sustained
pressure but were unable to break through to produce a score. Brecon
came straight back and after some good passing Tom Salisbury scores a
try under the posts which is converted by Hugh Prothero. Gwernyfed are
now on the back foot and two minutes later Grant Bragg goes over for
a third Brecon try which is not converted. The end of a breathtaking
first twenty minutes.
The second period of twenty minutes started with Gwernyfed planning a
fight back. This would have culminated in a spectacular try after five
minutes which was stopped by a magnificent tackle by Grant Bragg on the
left hand side line. Three minutes later after some flowing rugby by
Brecon Grant Bragg is at it again scoring the forth try. Gwernyfed wont
lie down and back they come to score a try under the posts which is converted.
Brecon then show some really good defensive work for the final five minutes
of the period.
The third period of twenty minutes and Brecon are not going to rely on
their lead. One minute in and Conner Norris scores a great try on the
right hand side which does not get converted. Another minute passes and
here he comes again with a great solo try, yes its Grant Bragg. This
is converted by Conner Norris. Gwernyfed try to fight back but the Brecon
defence holds out well but finally allows the Gwernyfed number two to
go over in the right hand corner. No conversion. Brecon come right back
and in the last minute team captain Tom Salisbury scores his second of
the match which is converted by Conner Norris.
