SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2009

Abercraf U 14 - 55 _ Brecon Under 14 15

What can I say!
A game of 2 halves that was witnessed by a considerable group of parents/guardians at Abercrave. As always, the support for the team is very much appreciated.

Brecon conceded 3 try’s early and with 2 conversions the score stood at 19 -0 within the first 10 minutes. However, with true grit and determination, Brecon dug in and in the 20th minute, a glimmer of hope appeared. A scrum formed in the Abercrave 22 metre zone. A loose ball was quickly and deftly scooped up by scrum half Hugh Prothero who offloaded to Kieran Deacon.
Kieran powered through to run in the try.

The score of 19 - 5 was short lived, and at half time BRFC were behind 40 - 5. The second half was a different story. The Boys showed great spirit taking the game to Abercrave. Within the first 5 minutes a try was scored by Kieran Deacon who emerged aggressively from a maul. Kieran Elliott made impressive tactical kicks to gain ground forcing Abercrave to retreat.

Against the run of play, Brecon conceded another try; the score, 45 - 10. In the 15th minute, Brecon was awarded a line out in the Abercrave 22. The ball was securely caught by flanker Grant Bragg and a tight maul then ensued. With aggressive drive by Brecon, Abercrave was forced back towards its try line. Tom Salisbury emerged with gusto and grounded the ball
to score the third try. Abercrave did score another 2 try’s which, I believe, was against the run of play in the second half.

The team never dropped their heads and played so well against a superioropposition and should be proud of themselves. Special mention must go to James Hosie and Grant Bragg for their outstanding tackling and to Ryan Gould for attempting difficult conversion kicks, only just missing.
Next week Aberdare at home.
Final score Abercrave 55 - Brecon 15
