Brecon
RFC Under 15s
Friday 5th March 2010
Abercraf
RFC 12 - Brecon RFC 49
Brecon under 15's travelled to Abercrave on the evening
of Friday 5 March for a 7pm kick off under lights. From the kick off
it was apparent that Brecon would have to work hard to overcome the hard
tackling Abercrave defence. Tries in the first half came through the
direct running and excellent support play of the pack with Jon James,
Cellan Harris, Robson Blake and Tom Lewis touching down. Jake Thompson
also stormed over the line but the ball was held up. Other scores by
the backs were finished by Luke Bowen and Richie Elliot. Abercrave exposed
some poor team organisation and kicking, at the end of the half, by scoring
with a 2 man overlap. The feature of the half was the excellent tacking
of Zac Thompson and the control of Arran Games at 10.
A number of changes were made to the Brecon side at half time which included
some experimental positional changes which worked well. The second half
was lit up early on with an eighty yard break away try by Richie Elliot.
Brecon however conceded another try by being outflanked in the backs
again. Brecon fought back with tries by Jon James crashing over from
12 inches and Robson Blake sprinting 20 metres down the right wing after
being put away by a beautifully timed pass. Most pleasing were the contributions
of the recent acquisitions Ryan Carter and Onwell Moyo complimented by
the return of Shaun Commee.
A fine end to an encouraging week for the boys with the cup quarter final
win, the High School's convincing win away at Treorchy and the Powys
Schools team (with Jon, Robson, Tom Lewis and Arran) having an excellent
win against Pontypool district and qualifying for the semi final of the
Dewar Bowl. The district semi final will be played at the Talbot Athletic
Ground, Aberavon on March 24th. Brecon await the draw for the semi of
the HOW cup.
Once again Shaver and co. made Brecon very welcome at the club after
the match with good food and drink.
