Brecon Youth remain unbeaten in the league and move top after an entertaining encounter at Parc De Pugh on Saturday
A game played in front of a large crowd in bright sunshine proved to be an excellent advert for youth rugby
Brecon did get the vital bonus point win, but much credit must go to the visitors who played their part in a great match
Brecon got off to a perfect start with Ben Kenchington ( MOM ) crashing over after five minutes and when Charlie East scored and converted the next try with in ten minutes it appeared Brecon were in for an easy afternoon
Aberdare dug deep and started to cause Brecon problems. The home side, careless with ball in hand, offered the away team encouragement, but they failed to capitalise. However much Aberdare pushed for a score, Brecon defended valiantly and it was the hosts who recorded the next two scores through Olly Lewis and Kieran Dunford. Although very different, both tries very easy on the eye and gave Brecon a 22 pts lead at half time
The start of the second half belonged to Aberdare who capitalised on Brecon’s mistakes and scored two soft tries, focussing the minds of the Brecon team
A few changes were made freshening up the hosts and it was Brecon who got a break away try from Dan Hiscocks which pretty much settled the game
Aberdare did reply with a try before Brecon sealed their victory with another Charlie East try under the posts, converted by Dan Hiscocks
The win giving Brecon the opportunity to become league champions if they can overcome Cardiff Quins away next Saturday in the final match of the season
Many positives came from the game, the majority of the side will be young enough for selection next season, many of our big impact players were missing and the way they have regrouped after the disappointment of recent weeks in the cup defeats is remarkable
