Brecon Youth travelled to Pontyclun RFC on Saturday in their final league match of the current league structure, and the result secured second spot in the league as they progress to the Blues Premiership Trophy for the remainder of the season
Due to the Christmas break and the poor weather this was Brecons first game since beating Newbridge RFC in the Welsh Cup on December 1st and it was a great opportunity for the coaches to give all squad players valuable game time. All players involved showed great endeavour and a high skill level in an extremely entertaining encounter at Pontyclun RFC. Although scrappy at times, eight tries were scored by Brecon and it could have been more if at times as players were guilty of not releasing the supporting player with the final pass. Hopefully some lessons will be learnt as the side move onto the second part of the season
The match was a great advert for Youth rugby and was played in a excellent spirit which all those hardy spectators who braved the cold enjoyed and had plenty to cheer. Some of the ball handling and execution of tries by Brecon was top drawer which the home side struggled to defend against.
The squad and coaches realise that improvements will have to be made in many aspects before they start stage two of the league campaign away to Ystrad Rhondda on January 19th, but this was a satisfying result and the squad start 2019 where they left off 2018 - on a winning note Well done all
Try scorers, Josh Hamilton, Ben Kenchington, Ryan Williams, Tom Richards, Charlie East, Iestyn Havard, Ben Griffin x 2 Conversions - Ryan Williams x 3
