Have you lost work due to the pandemic? Are you connected to Welsh rugby?

The Welsh Rugby Union has teamed up with School of Hard Knocks to help you get ‘Back in the Game’ and into employment. The SOHK charity has a team of experts who will deliver a series of free, intensive courses, run online over five days. The course is suitable for anyone connected with Welsh rugby who has been made redundant due to the covid pandemic – male or female players, coaches, referees, volunteers or parents of players. This course could give members of the rugby family the boost they need to bounce back into the job market.

The courses will include a series of zoom sessions incorporating personal well-being and physical activity workshops, delivered by Wales Women’s Alecs Donovan and Celtic Fitness’ Richard Hughes and practical, one-to-one employability advice and support.

There will be 15 participants on each five-day course and up to seven courses will be delivered. Anyone with a connection to Welsh rugby living anywhere in Wales who has lost work due to the Covid pandemic can apply.

Catryn Grundy, SoHK Programmes Director for Wales said, “The Back in the Game course gives people whose jobs have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic not only the skills but also the confidence to take on their next challenge. Supporting participants with preparing themselves physically, mentally and practically you will take part in daily exercise sessions, group workshops and have one to one coaching. With a unique CV, sharpened interview skills and the right mindset, the SOHK team will give you all the tools you need to get yourself back in the game!”

WRU Community Director Geraint John said, “We know the lockdown has had a detrimental effect on a large number of those involved in Welsh rugby and we have worked with partners to find practical solutions to the issues they face.

“The Back in the Game project is there to help anyone in the rugby family who has lost employment in the last few months to quickly get back into work.”

The link-up is part of a series of collaborations geared to help the Welsh rugby family bounce back from the effects of the pandemic with more news to follow in the coming weeks and months.
