Membership

These are strange times for us all. As we approach September, and what would normally be the start of the Rugby Season, we still have no idea how or when the season may start. We have taken a first step forward with the Club opening in a Covid Safe way and with Non-Contact training having commenced. It is good to see players back out on Parc de Pugh and members and friends enjoying the hospitality of the Clubhouse for the first time in almost six months. The Lockdown period has been hard for us all. We have all missed our friends, the stimulation of competitive rugby and the general camaraderie at the Clubhouse but, hopefully, we have reached this point with the whole of our Club Community Safe and Well.

The shutdown has been a challenge financially for the Club. With fixed expenses and little or no income the Board has had to work hard to stay afloat after losing important income linked to match days, Brecon Show, Brecon Jazz and Caravan Lettings. This has been a challenging period to say the least. Now as we are hopefully starting to emerge towards normality we need to tap in to other annual sources of income. This is the time of year when we normally invite people to renew their membership as Players, Adults, Families and Vice Presidents. We totally understand that these are not normal times and it is not only the Club that has suffered financially, so we have delayed asking you to renew your membership until now even though membership income is urgently needed. Also we are prepared to extend the membership closure date to beyond the end of September and up until we have a clearer idea about how the season is likely to pan out.

If you can and wish to support the Club now then please complete and return the attached form (preferably by email to Rhobert) with Payment (preferably by BACS – details on the form.)

Matthew J Watkins Birthday Ride in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre

On Wednesday 2nd September twenty two close friends and team-mates of Matthew will cycle from Llanelli to Oakdale in his memory on what would have been his 42nd birthday and to raise funds for Velindre where he received treatment.  The group including Shane Williams, and Alex Popham will leave Parc y Scarlets and will head for the Liberty Stadium, then ride on the Principality Stadium, Rodney Parade, Pontllanfraith RFC and finally on to Oakdale Rugby Club.

Matthew was an inspiration to us all at Brecon RFC, both through his coaching and the way he conducted himself while putting others first as he fought the toughest personal battle of his life.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this fundraising event which has great relevance to us can make a donation by visiting:-
