Mountain Ash U13 31 - Brecon U13 28

Welcome back to rugby at the start of 2022. Hopefully we will be able to continue our rugby like this for the rest of the month.

Mountain Ash’s kick off put us on the back foot straight away by driving us into touch. They then had a driving lineout maul which took them into our 22. Mountain Ash then went into their pick and drive game to score the first try in the corner.
At the re-start we ended up with a lineout, which saw the ball split out to Layth who passed it to Tom and a big miss pass out to Henry saw him race into the corner for a 50m try. Layth converted (5-7).
Mountain Ash then hit back. Once again their pick and drive game was effective and they scored a try which was converted.  (12-7).
We then gave away some silly penalties which gifted them some easy metres into our 22m again and Mountain Ash went back to their forward orientated game which yielded a third try and then added the conversion. (19-7).
The game was then stopped for the head collision, which saw Tom and Jack.G leave the field and not come back on under the concussion rules.
We then stopped early for half time. HT
We came out in the second half with only 12vs12. Knowing that there is going to be space in the wide channels we attacked them hard on the fringes. This patter proved to be successful as Layth out-paced his opposite number and scored under the posts. Layth converted (19-14).
From the re-start Conner caught the ball and beat the first man coming to tackle him. He then almost made it to the Mountain Ash 22m. Matthew was then quickest to react to see the space and went under the post to score. Layth converted (19-21).
We were quickly back on our own try line and we were forced to make some big tackles with Tudor and Jack C-L prominent. In spite of the brave defence Mountain Ash scored again in the corner (24-21).
From the re-start Mountain Ash failed to catch the ball and it bounced into touch within their 22m. At the lineout we knocked the ball on and gave the ball back to Mountain Ash. From the scrum they moved the ball quickly to their outside centre who made a massive run into our 22m, Matthew making the tackle.
Our scramble defence didn’t hold out for long and some big defensive efforts from Quinn and Conner could only slow them down, and eventually they scored a converted try (31-21).
Mountain Ash came straight back at us and push us back into our 22m but a MASSIVE defensive effort saw us win the ball back and Adam raced away like a bullet to score under the posts. Layth converted (31-28).

Man of the Match went to Jack C-L. He was everywhere today causing problems, making tackles and hitting rucks.

Full time score.
Mountain Ash 31 - 28 Brecon.
